Anthony Fournier is a Swiss conductor whose career is distinguished by a deeply musical vision, high artistic standards, and a constant desire to redefine the relationship between the orchestra, artists, and audiences.
The year 2026 marks a major turning point in his international career. He becomes the Artistic Director of the Alpine Philharmonic Orchestra, an ensemble he founded with the ambition of bringing together an outstanding generation of musicians from across the European classical music scene. The orchestra brings together nearly 70 instrumentalists representing more than 25 nationalities, including more than twenty Konzertmeister and principal players from leading institutions such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Orchestre de Paris, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich... Conceived as an international orchestra of excellence, the Alpine Philharmonic Orchestra reflects Anthony Fournier’s vision of creating exceptional artistic encounters and developing a new generation of ambitious symphonic projects.
That same year, he won the Los Angeles Conducting Competition 2026, receiving the title of Grand Prize Winner, a distinction that marks a significant milestone in his career and further establishes his presence on the international conducting scene.
Trained in conducting in Italy and Switzerland, Anthony Fournier holds a Master of Arts in Conducting from the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne. He has further developed his artistry under the guidance of internationally renowned conductors including Paavo Järvi, Gianandrea Noseda, Johannes Schlaefli, David Reiland, and Giuseppe Montesano, whose mentorship has contributed to shaping his approach to orchestral repertoire and rehearsal work.
His career has led him to conduct and collaborate with numerous orchestras across Europe, including the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Orchestre National de Metz, Sinfonietta de Lausanne, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Basel Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, Szolnok Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Savaria Symphony Orchestra.
Deeply committed to opera and the lyric repertoire, he also served as Assistant Conductor at the Opéra National du Rhin, where he conducted Albéric Magnard’s Guercoeur. This experience further developed his approach to conducting, founded on a balance between musical precision, dramatic insight, and artistic freedom.
His achievements have been recognized through several distinctions, including the Cultural Prize of the City of Sion in 2017, the Prix Tremplin of the Fondation Leenaards in 2024, and the Italian Conducting Competition “Alceo Galliera”, where he was awarded first prize in 2024. In 2026, being named Grand Prize Winner of the Los Angeles Conducting Competition marks another significant step in his international development.
Alongside his conducting career, Anthony Fournier has developed an active profile as a composer and arranger, exploring new forms of musical creation and presentation. His project The WIDE Show notably reflects his desire to expand the traditional concert experience and create new ways of engaging audiences with classical music.
Since April 2026, he has served as Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orchestre Symphonique Genevois, while also holding the position of Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orchestre Quipasseparlà, with which he has worked since 2023.
As a committed artist, Anthony Fournier places education, transmission, and accessibility at the heart of his work. Masterclasses, educational projects, participatory concerts, and original creations are all expressions of the same conviction: that music should remain a space for discovery, dialogue, and shared experience.
